Weng im Gesäuse is located in the eastern Admont Basin on the River Enns and in the Gesäuse National Park in the district of Liezen, which was established in 2002. The highest mountain in the former municipal area is the Große Buchstein at 2224 m. Weng im Gesäuse was a municipality with 586 inhabitants. Since January 1, 2015, it has been merged with the municipalities of Hall, Johnsbach and Admont as part of the Styrian municipal reform.
